Our work illustrates a famous episode in History: the meeting on the Niemen between Emperor Napoleon and Tsar Alexander with a view to concluding a peace agreement which will lead to the Treaty of Tilsit. This agreement signed on July 7, 1807 put an end to a war marked by three legendary battles: Austerlitz on December 2, 1805, Eylau on February 8, 1807 and Friedland on June 14, 1807. On June 25, 1807, Napoleon, escorted by the Grand Duke of Berg (Murat), the Prince of Neufchâtel (Berthier), Marshal Bessières, General Duroc and the Grand Squire Caulaincourt meeting Alexander I on the raft of the Niémen, accompanied by the Grand Duke Constantine his brother, General Beningsen, Prince Labanow , of the general aide-de-camp Count of Lieven.
A pivotal moment in the imperial epic, this event has not been the subject of significant representation and remains a rare iconography in the history of art.
