"The Muse Of The Source By Jean Hugues"
The first presentation of the “Muse of the source” by Jean Hugues took place at the Salon des Beaux-Arts of 1893, subsequently editions in bronze and marble were acquired by various museums (including Orsay). The proposed bronze version dates from the beginning of the 20th century and was produced by the Parisian founder Siot-Decauville. It is in very good general condition, slight wear consistent with its age, original dark brown patina, founder's stamp and numbering. Jean Baptiste Dominique Hugues was born in 1849 in the city of Marseille where he learned sculpture at the School of Fine Arts, his training continued in Paris and he won a Grand Prix de Rome in 1875. Professor and member of the higher council from the National School of Fine Arts, he was appointed officer of the Legion of Honor in 1903. Many works by Jean Hugues are visible in museums and national sites.
