"Louis XIV In Bas-relief 17th Century"
Ivory plaque carved in bas-relief in the form of an elongated shield, representing the French King Louis XIV. The young monarch is depicted in bust and profile in the manner of antique medals. The young monarch is portrayed with a haughty head carriage in profile, his expressive face turned to the left, looking to the future. His long, flowing hair is swept back over his shoulders in soft, sinuous curls. He is dressed in a superb garment, finely composed of a shirt with a double funnel collar and a long pleated fabric. On his right shoulder (probably), he wears the blue cordon of the Order of the Holy Spirit, an order of chivalry created in 1578. This type of iconography was used by many artists throughout his reign, and this one is signed Everhardus.
