Pair of bakelite boxes, finely carved, representing a man, a young Indian woman and antelopes in a forest. Bakelite was developed between 1907 and 1909 by the Belgian chemist Leo Baekeland. Initial color between brown and black, and can also be colored. Bakelite was commonly used from 1920 until 1950,
