"Henry William Batley's Aesthetic Movement Cabinet"
Henry William Batley was an Aesthetic movement cabinetmaker specializing in ebonized wood collector's furniture. His production, of which few pieces remain to this day, is characterized by multiple references to medieval England, such as drapery and stylized flowers. In the center of the fan is affixed a metal medallion representing Hercules fighting the lion. This piece of furniture is an extremely rare example of the productions of the William Morris movement, which draws inspiration from the past to find sobriety and timeless elegance.
