Important pair of finely chiseled gilded bronze sconces. Openwork body with palmettes, fleurons and acanthus. Two foliage strangling sconces. Bobeches with florets and gadroons, vases with lanceolate leaves. Bases with masks of bearded men, scrolls and falls. Matte and shiny gilding. Signed H.Vian. Around 1880. Height 52 cm, width 35 cm, depth 23 cm. Recent electrification. Henri Vian (1858-1904), bronze worker. He participated in the Universal Exhibitions of 1878, 1889 and 1900 and won a gold medal in 1889. He created the gates of the Villa Arnaga, residence of Edmond Rostand in the Basque Country. He also worked at the Ritz Hotel in London and at the Court of Auditors on rue Cambon.
