Old yastik, Anatolian around 1900, hand-knotted wool in Türkiye.
Yastiks are welcome mats found in Anatolia at the entrance to houses.
These small rugs are more or less rich in decoration.
Our model has a not very ostentatious mihrab tip and an extraordinary decoration:
two large medallions have crosses pattées within them.
They probably end in the case of this carpet, with rams' horns at the four ends which are called kotchak in Asia Minor and Central Asia.
Large and beautiful stylized and colorful flowers adorn the whole.
The border decorated with stylized carnations is the symbol of carpet knotters found particularly in the Oushak region.
A wonderful little piece of decoration, a beautiful artifact from a distant past. Certainly we find these small hand-knotted rugs at all prices, but the rarity of this model is due to the combination of colors, its dating and its very elaborate decor.
Old Yastiks are only found very rarely.
