René André VARNIER (XIX-XX): Important bronze group Dogs on the prowl (1923) This beautiful bronze statue of two shepherds was created in 1923 for the Salon des Beaux-Arts by RA Varnier. R. Varnier has a phenomenal ability to model the right proportions, muscles and especially their emotion. The dogs are chained to a post with their food at the base. One lies with an alert face and ears up and forward, while the other half jumps over its partner with one leg up, mouth open and ears forward . The bronze is patinated and in very good condition. Varnier's signature is engraved on the back of the bronze as R Varnier, and the Salon des Beaux-Arts 1923 is engraved on the right side of the base Dimensions: H40 x 60 x 32
