Sandstone amphora from Mas Saintes Puelles in Aude, late 19th century Signed by Jean Perrutel Stamp in the PMP mass and signature at the tip of Jean Perrutel (1865-1933) Superb small amphora in sandstone glazed in a gradient from brown to green with drips 2 small handles Very good general condition h: 21.5 cm d: 15 cm For information: In 1857, two potters, Jean Vivent and Charles Perrutel (1812-1898) acquired a lime plaster factory located on the edge of the canal at Mas Saintes Puelles (Aude). Having become a pottery factory, the site was entirely in the hands of Charles Perrutel in 1862 then in those of his son Denis (1849-1906). The latter's brother, Antoine (1839-1904), had a new factory built in 1883 near his brother's. The latter died in 1906 and Antoine's son, Jean (1865-1933), then took over the business taken over by his brother Paul (1876-1941). The large wood-fired oven and its chimney were built in 1920. When Paul died in 1941, two of his workers, François Gleize and his nephew Emile Not, rented and then bought the factory. Not was at the head of the company in 1959 and at that time there were around ten shapes in production including the yellow grezale, the green Languedoc jug and green or brown footed vases.
