Object description :

"French School Of The 19th Century. Young Women In Antiquity. Study In Pen And Brown Ink."
French School of the first half of the 19th century.-"Young Women in Bust" or "Goodness and Generosity. Study in pen, ink and brown wash on paper. Dutch Style stained wooden frame. Presented in a wooden frame stained wood with a double frame of pleated Dutch-style ribbons, this delicate composition executed in ink and brown wash on cream paper features two female figures represented at mid-length. Dressed in light dresses highlighting the softness and whiteness of their flesh, both are, in the expression of their face, their intimate attitude, treated with grace. On the right, one of the young women captured in a cuddly gesture seems to play with the wild curly locks of her tender companion. Profiled in three-quarter view, the latter, dreamy, sketches on her caressing face with her forehead jeweled with blooming flowers a sweet smile. A feeling of elegiac complicity emerges from this pleasant Study whose subject relates either to Greco-Roman Mythology (representation of two Muses), or of the Allegory (Goodness and Generosity). Modest in size, this Study seduces with the liveliness of the line, the accuracy of the values as well as the elegance of its composition. Not without merit although its author remains mysterious despite the annotations on the reverse of the frame, it seems to be inspired by its graphics and its theme of certain works executed in the 18th century, notably by Carle Vanloo (1705-1765) or Louis Lagrenée ( 1724-1805). French school from the first half of the 19th century. Annotations on the reverse of the frame in pencil: "A?..Roux" Materials: brown-mahogany stained wood; pen, brown ink and brown wash on cream paper. Dimensions: With frame: H.: 30x26 cm - Drawing: 10 x 8 cm. Very good state.
