Provenance: Sotheby Parke Bernet Monaco SA, Emile Gallé vases, Lamps, projects, Sunday October 24, 1982 at Sporting d'Hiver, Monte Carlo Art Nouveau, a European artistic movement born at the end of the 19th century, redefined exterior architecture and interiors of houses, she draws her inspiration from nature, the marine world, straight lines give way to curves, arabesques, like the mouths of the Parisian metro by Hector Guimard. The interior furniture and crockery are transformed into tree branches, birds, fish, thistles. In 1871, the annexation of Alsace and Lorraine by Germany made Nancy the capital of Eastern France and of art nouveau. The Nancy school, headed by the cabinetmaker and master glassmaker Emile Gallé, as well as other emblematic figures such as Louis Majorelle or Jacques Grüber, gave this new artistic movement its credentials.
