Double-sided drawing, 26.8 x 20.8 cm. The coronation of Denis I, king for one evening, 12/22/58 On the first side, superb drawing in watercolor, black felt-tip pen and ink on tinted paper. Signed and dated lower left and titled lower right. Read “Merdre”, 14 rue St isidore in Lyon 3è On the second side, drawing of a portrait of a man in a hat in blue ink on tinted paper. Annotated and signed lower right. Remarks: folds, a few small holes on the edges, slight halo at the angle. Provenance: offered by the artist to the current owner in 1958. The authenticity of this work was kindly confirmed by Mr. Thomas Le Guillou Gaston CHAISSAC (1910 – 1964), French painter. It belongs to the art brut movement, a notion specific to Jean Dubuffet which designates the art of those who have no artistic culture. Gaston Chaissac is also known for his texts and poems which he publishes in magazines such as La Nouvelle Revue française.
