"The Olympic Skater - Bronze By Sakuuchi Yamato - Circa 1960-70"
Born in 1901, he was a farm boy. He was noted for his sculptures made as a hobby, and in 1930 he joined the Japanese School of Farmers' Art. He exhibited there until 36 at the institute's dedicated exhibition. In 1930 his play "man carrying firewood" went to France for 3 years to study at the Julian Academy. Back in Japan, he learned casting techniques from Naoya Takei (former student of Bourdelle), a leading figure in modern sculpture. v Over the past 60 years he has continued his vigorous production activities, leaving behind a vast range of works ranging from crafts such as paperweights and bookcases to children, nude women, busts of celebrities, sumo wrestlers, Buddhist statues and outdoor monuments.
