"Large Shirazi Wooden Chest, India, 19th Century"
Large "Shirazi" chest, probably of Indian origin and designed for the Iranian market during the 19th century. Made of hardwood, it is decorated with copper alloy plates cut on three sides, presenting foliate contours and nails forming rosettes or geometric patterns. In the center of the facade, a Balmette cut-out lock allows the opening of a large lid mounted on a hinge. Three mirrors are arranged along the base, each fitted with a pair of handles, while two further side handles make transport easier. A similar example of this chest is also on display at the Royal Geographical Society in London. Its dimensions are as follows: length of 126.5 cm, depth of 57 cm and height of 60 cm. It should be noted that traces of wear and a slight accident are visible on the object.
