"Large 18th Century Drawing - Pencil, Quill And Wash - Alexander The Great As Winner"
Large drawing made in pencil, pen and brown wash. Alexander the Great is represented in the center of the composition in all his magnanimity. He extends his hand to the vanquished who throw themselves on the food that Alexander was kind enough to give them. Behind the conqueror, his army seizes the loot in bundles carried on their backs. On the right of the image, seated and prostrate, the great Darius, king of Persia, defeated, his head resting on his sword. He watches Alexander's victory defeated. This drawing is an 18th century French school similar to the work of Ferdinand de La Monce (1678-1753). One of his works present in the Louvre represents the magnanimity of Alexander the Great towards the mother and wives of Darius (INV 27534). 57cm long 44cm wide
