"Tanneries Sur La Bievre Aux Gobelins In Paris. Ernest Millard. (1872-1946). French School."
Exceptional and extremely rare view of the beer tanneries at Gobelins in Paris. The Carnavalet museum keeps some photos of the place which has now disappeared. This historical testimony was painted by Ernest Millard, known as Ernest Millard de Bois Durand, French painter, watercolorist and illustrator born in 1872 in the 1st arrondissement of Paris, city where he died in 1946 in the 18th. He was also a professor of drawing and artistic anatomy at the Boulle school. Student of Scaroni, twice awarded the Decorative Arts (1890), medalist at Fontainebleau (1912) and medalist of the French Renaissance (1927), Ernest Millard has exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants since 1905, at the Salon des Peintures de Montagne, at the Fédération French artists. He also exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1895 to 1912, at the Georges Petit gallery in 1901 and 1903, at the Salon des Jeunes in 1919 and 1920, at the Cercle des Gobelins since 1910, as well as in Angers, Rouen, Versailles, Bordeaux, Nevers, Béziers and Fontainebleau. Ernest Millard distinguished himself in all genres, especially in landscape; he favors watercolor, a genre in which he has had real success. the canvas is in good condition. It has been recanvassed and restored. It is presented in a superb wooden and gilded stucco frame with some small dents at the corners. dimensions of the canvas alone, 73 cm x 54 cm. In its large frame, 105 cm x 86 cm. I can possibly transport the painting to Paris. It is a very interesting testimony to the history of the city of Paris.
