Sicilian, 18th century.
Contained within a bone inlaid, green velvet lined wooden case.
The sculpture measures 77cm high and the case measures 89 x 45 x 25cm.
The sculpture is carved in the round depicting the full-length Madonna with the Child in her arms, the sculpture is highlighted in gilt decoration to the hair and robes. The base of the sculpture is boldly carved in the rococo manner with scrolls and supported by an eagle clutching a coat of arms representing the city of Trapani. Both figures are adorned with 19th century gilt-brass halos. The sculpture remains in fine condition with general age related wear and tear however the front left lip of the base has been finely restored in alabaster and the Christ Child’s arm has been reattached. The exterior of the case is missing 3/4 small closing latches.
