"William Sidney Smith (admiral) – Signed Autograph Ticket"
Autograph ticket signed on the back of an invoice printed on the letterhead of the supplier Fortin. Paris August 15, 1818; 2 pages in-8° oblong. Invoice of 50 francs to be paid to Mr. Fortin in payment for supplies purchased on behalf of the anti-pirate institution of the Knights Liberators of African Slaves: “Anti-pirate Institution – slave account. Mes Perrigoux Lafitte et C°. Please pay Mr. Fortin or the bearer of his receipt on the back the sum of fifty francs for work and supplies made on behalf of the Knights Liberators of Slaves in Africa. S. Smith President » On the back the invoice is in the name of Fortin and signed by himself; Paris, July 11, 1818: "the Anti-Pirate Institution owes 1 medal box and 2 lockable boxes with double hooks" for a total of 50 francs. Admiral SIDNEY SMITH stands out like Admiral Nelson against the France during the French Revolution and the First Empire, notably during the Egyptian campaign in 1799, which made Napoleon Bonaparte say: “this man made me miss my fortune…”
