"Small Mahogany Living Room Table, Louis XVI Style – Mid-19th Century"
Charming little atypical piece of furniture composed on the front of a door with a miter-cut mahogany frame, mounted on the right on brass hinges and pulled by a lens button. The central embossed part is lined with leather book spines bringing great singularity to this furniture. When opened, this door reveals a substantial storage space. Above, a shelf with stopper and lens button is hidden. It slides and we discover a miter-cut frame surrounding green leather with gold vignette. The sides of this piece of furniture are concave and fitted with a rosewood veneer arranged in a butterfly wing pattern. Light wood fillets highlight this marquetry surrounded by mahogany. The uprights on the front have a beautiful rosewood inlay arranged horizontally. At the top of each leg, under the box, a relief strip highlights this rosewood marquetry. The sheathed feet end in hooves. In the lower part, a shelf with concave sides connects the four legs. It has an expanded veneer with a joint in the middle. The top of this white Carrara marble piece of furniture follows its shape. Its perimeter is decorated with an openwork gallery in chiseled brass (rear, sides and returns) and notched. Refined and elegant, this small piece of quality furniture with a unique front will delight with its functionality and ideal dimensions. ******** Period: Mid-19th century Excellent condition after restoration in our workshop.
