High-relief Plaster Sculpture, “dancers From Borghese” – 19th Century

Plaster sculpture, Sienna color, where 5 representations of Hora, Roman goddess, hold hands and dance. From the front, in profile or from behind, these ancient women have an identical hairstyle ending in a bun. They wear long drapes - or chitons - and are barefoot. In the background and between each of the characters, Corinthian pilasters complete the Greco-Roman spirit of this work. The stage rests on a projection of around ten centimeters. This sculpture, with a pretty color and subtle nuances, is equipped with 2 iron rings which will allow it to be suspended, or simply secured to the wall. On the back, a plaque bearing the inscription "Ateliers de molding des musées nationaux - RF" attests to its provenance and the quality of its manufacture. This High Relief, also called "The Hours accompanied by Graces or Charities", is inspired by the original, in marble, exhibited at the Louvre Museum, and dating from the 2nd century AD. It was initially placed in the great gallery of the Villa Borghese, in Rome, hence the name given to these 5 divine figures, also taken up by Joseph Chinard in 1792. ******* Period: 19th Excellent condition.
