Object description :

"Enameled Miniature Antique Scene, 19th Century"
Enameled miniature depicting an Antique-style scene. Four figures dressed in draperies are shown discussing. Among the four figures is a woman. They surround what may be an altar. A sheep stands in the background. Some marks on the surface of the plaque.

The scene may refer to the myth of the Golden Fleece. More specifically, the legend of the priestess Medea. When Jason, leader of the Argonauts, arrives in Colchis to obtain the Golden Fleece, he meets Medea, daughter of the Colchian king. Medea falls in love with Jason and uses her magical powers to help him accomplish his impossible tasks. Later, she flees with Jason, betraying her family.
