"Large Watch Holder In Boulle Marquetry "bronze With Crowned C" Louis XV Period XVIII"
Important watch holder in brass marquetry engraved on a background of tortoise shell called "Boulle", bronze with "crowned C" Louis XV XVIII period. The violin-shaped watch holder topped with a gilded bronze soldier is inlaid with foliage and flower scrolls in engraved brass on a brown tortoiseshell background. It opens with an inlaid door decorated with a cherub and a woman in gilded bronze stamped with the "crowned C" which attests to a tax on metals in force between 1745-1749. It rests on four foliaged gilt bronze epaulettes forming the feet. Original mercury gilding in very good condition cleaned by our workshop (small old restoration at one foot of the soldier). Original lock working with its key. (Sold without the watch).
