Object description :

"Louis XV Louis XVI Transition Period Marquetry Chiffonier Attributed To Nicolas Petit"
Beautiful chiffonier or weekly drawer, it opens with 6 drawers without crosspiece. Beautiful marquetry of cubes and flower painting for the two top and two bottom drawers, on the two in the center a trophy of musical instruments which fits into an oval cartouche. Beautiful decoration of chiseled and gilded bronzes, falls with lion heads and laurel wreaths, keyholes, palmettes on the feet. These lion-headed falls are characteristic of the work of Nicolas Petit on whose furniture they are often found. Other haberdashery merchants also used this characteristic bronze motif, but especially Nicolas Petit. The quality of the cabinetmaking, the finesse of the marquetry, the elegance of the forms make the attribution to Nicolas Petit very likely, for work from the 1770s. Having become a master in 1761, Nicolas Petit opened his workshop on rue du Faubourg Saint- Antoine, under the name "In the Name of Jesus" He worked there for more than thirty years, adapted without problem to the evolution of the different styles of the 18th century and very quickly acquired great notoriety. His career began with very refined chests of drawers with a curved shape in the Louis XV style, secretaries, desks, small tables, finely inlaid with flowering branches. With the appearance of "Greek taste" he took inspiration from classical art for the decoration of his furniture. His Transition chests of drawers are often decorated with bronze made of two urns topped with drapery, others are inlaid with geometric or flower motifs. In the Louis XVI style, he mainly made furniture in solid wood, which he decorated with lacquered panels or mosaics. Overall, Nicolas Petit's furniture, with simple and classic decors, is always in good taste and made with care. His furniture can be found in the biggest museums. Excellent condition, our piece of furniture comes from the cabinetmaker with a new varnish. The key operates all the drawers. Beautiful collector's item Width 54cm Height, 148.5cm Depth 36.5cm
