"Venice, From A Pair, Signed Marc Aldine Dit Bouvard"
View of a canal in VENICE, signed lower left Marc ALDINE, known as BOUVARD According to the information provided by Delphine Bouvard, the artist's great-granddaughter, Antoine Bouvard was in fact named Eloi Noël Beraud, although which he chose to paint under the pseudonyms “Bouvard” and “Marc Aldine”. Born in Saint Jean-de-Bournay in Isère, Antoine Bouvard received training as an architect at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris in the studio of Constant-Dufeus. He became Director of Architectural Services of the Seine and was appointed responsible for the construction of the Stock Exchange (Palais Brogniart) as well as Boulevard Morland. Bouvard visited Venice at the beginning of the 20th century and immediately fell in love with its unique light and spectacle that appealed to so many artists. He returned there frequently throughout his life and specialized in the views of the Serenissima, which made him famous. He exhibited throughout France and Italy, as well as in numerous galleries in Europe. Bouvard's paintings reveal the influence of the artist Félix Ziem, whom he met during one of his many trips to Venice, and show his instinctive understanding of light, so characteristic of the city. His paintings describe the romantic and serene side of the latter, and it is this sensitive image of the city of Dosges which made the artist's reputation. Not only did he know how to transcribe the activity and charm of the Grand Canal and Santa Maria Della Salute, but he also knew how to capture the atmosphere and serenity of the waves. His paintings demonstrate his architectural talent and also reflect his love for the effects of light specific to Venice. Bouvard's works are painted in an intimate style, managing to capture all the charm of one of the most beautiful cities in the world. His popularity is still intact today and places him among the most recognized and respected painters of Venetian subjects. Dimensions: frame 69cm x 60cm at sight: 54cm x 46cm
