"Chalice In Silver France Around 1840 By Jb Garnier Goldsmith"
Tulip-shaped silver chalice with rich embossed, chiseled and guilloché decoration. The chalice rests on a circular ogee base decorated with a Jerusalem cross, bouquets of rushes and bunches of grapes. The terrace is domed, decorated with rolled leather, rounded field cartouches and foliage. The barrel is made up of rings and collars decorated with fusarole and ropes and an ovoid knot decorated with rosettes, ears of wheat, bunches of grapes. The ornament of the false openwork cup takes up the floral motifs decorating the chalice knot. The cup is golden. 950/1000 silver, Minerva Chalice hallmarks executed by the Parisian goldsmith Jean-Baptiste Garnier whose hallmark was inscribed on July 23, 1839 and who was active until 1848. His workshop was taken over by Pierre-Henry Favier. Height: 28 cm Base: 14.2 cm Cup diameter: 8.7 cm Weight: 495 gr Very good condition Note: Traces of old restoration on the terrace which do not alter the solidity of the chalice structure. Wear of the gilding. An inscription on the edge of the base.
