This type of model was generally placed behind the window of a theater box office, it was used to identify the location of seats available for rental. A very rare witness to the life of theaters since there was only one model per theater, that of the Variétés evokes the hectic life of the theaters of the Grands Boulevards in Paris, the cinema too since the Théâtre des Variétés belonged to Jean-Paul Belmondo in its recent history. Built in 1807, the Théâtre des Variétés brought glory to Paris under the Second Empire with the bouffe operas of Jacques Offenbach as well as during the Belle Époque. World-famous actors like Réjane, Mistinguett, Albert Brasseur etc. performed there and today it is one of the most important theaters in Paris with what we call boulevard theater on display.
