"Rare Suite Of Six Sconces With Hunting Horns In Bronze With Brown Patina"
RARE SUITE OF SIX HUNTING HORNS APPLIQUE in bronze with brown patina. Two arms of light with hunting horns joined by a ribbon. The top topped with a knotted ribbon, and finished at the bottom with a tassel of trimmings, oak leaves and acorn to cushion the trunks. Inspired by Claude Galle's model for the Petit Trianon in 1809, our model was made by the Baguès house in the 20th century. High. 32cm, Width. 23cm. Provenance: Private collection of Sologne. Bibliography: - Denise Ledoux-Lebard, "Versailles, Le petit Trianon, the furniture of the Inventories of 1807, 1810 and 1839", p. 98, Gallé model reproduced in black on page 91. The model of appliques with hunting horns was very fashionable at the end of the 18th century. It is found in various variations in the largest collections, such as those of Queen Marie-Antoinette, at Bagatelle, or even at the Pavlosk Palace in Saint Petersburg. Its success continued under the Empire. This is evidenced by these four “hunting horn arms” delivered by Claude Gallé on December 23, 1809 for the Salon de Petite Compagnie at the Petit Trianon, for the sum of 2,960 francs. Our model was made in the mid-20th century, by the Baguès house, one of the best houses for exceptional lighting and bronzes.
