Josep Roca Sastre (1928-1997) was one of the most important realist artists in Catalonia in the 20th century. He began his career in Paris in 1956, where he spent two years on a scholarship from the French Institute and where he won first prize in the Young Painting competition. Subsequently, his works stood out for their urban and intimate themes, with a very personal style that reflected an inner world marked by modernism and inspired by the past and the corners of his own studio in Barcelona.
