"Shawl Stole Said Assuit In Cotton Voile And Golden Metal Slats - Egypt Circa 1930-1940"
Circa 1930-1940 Egypt Elegant black and gold shawl or stole from the Art Deco period, known as Assuit Shawl, made in Egypt for Western fashion during the 1920s-1940s. This Egyptomania fashion appeared in Europe as soon as the tomb of Tutankhamun was discovered in 1922 in Egypt. Here the graphic is striped in the center and framed by a double border of pyramid-shaped triangles on the four sides. The technique is manual and absolutely breathtaking! It is a cotton veil or net entirely punched with gilded metal blades forming the design. In France, great Couturiers such as Paul Poiret, Babani or Gallenga have made Art Deco dresses with this precious material which has an impeccable fluid drape. A flawless shawl, the veil is surprisingly strong to support the weight of the gold metal. Exceptional state of color and conservation. Easily portable for a refined evening. Dimensions: 214cm x 91cm.
