"19th Century Painting, Fort Or Bay Of Saint-malo In Stormy Weather"
Hello, I offer you this very beautiful and old painting from the 19th century, representing two boats, sailboats in front of the bay of Saint-Malo in stormy weather. It's an oil painting, on canvas. The signature will be deciphered Dimensions of the gilded wood frame: Height 48 cm, Width 68 cm The intervention report will be given with the painting upon acquisition. This painting passed before the hands of two painting restoration experts Atelier du fil d'Or Louise Coutant & Julie Wygas Restoration – Conservation of painting and gilded wood 29 Bd André Detolle, 14000, Caen Siret: 90151896900018 the intervention report Cleaning on the reverse: The reverse has been dusted, to allow its good conservation. The accumulations of dust, located between the frame and the canvas, conducive to the development of microorganisms, were manually removed. Cleaning: The surface of the paint layer, which was very dirty, was cleaned. An active tension put into an aqueous emulsion was applied via a wadded pick, allowing the grayish and dull film of dirt to be removed. Lightening of the varnish: After a certain time of evaporation, the varnish, very oxidized, as well as the numerous repaintings, were lightened, to regain the original nuances and design. This was notably achieved in the sky, in the left part of the composition. In fact, a dark whitewash had been applied, covering a grayer, less stormy sky. It appears that age cracking and premature cracking of the paint got in the way, leading to this overpainting. Putties and retouching: The missing areas were puttyed and retouched, a putty milk was carefully applied to recreate, in a second step, the reliefs of the pictorial layer (brush strokes, weaving pattern, etc.). The retouching was done, after structuring the putties, with stable and reversible colors. Varnish: A saturating and protective varnish, made of synthetic resin, identical to the resin constituting our colors to be retouched, has been applied.
