Raoul Adam, born July 22, 1881 in La Châtre, studied in Paris then took courses in decorative arts1. He frequented the workshops of Cormon and Gustave Colin and his first paintings were about the Creuse valley1. The Black Valley where he is based inspires him in his landscape paintings1. He exhibited in Paris at the Salon of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts from 1912. 2 He lived successively in Éguzon, Châteauroux, Thevet-Saint-Julien and Nohant-Vic. He died on October 12, 1948 in the workshop he had built in 1939 in Nohant-Vic, in the village of Nohant1. He is buried in the Nohant cemetery.
