"Large Cubizing Songye Statue"
Large Songye statue from Democratic Republic of Congo. Height 60 cm excluding base, good condition, some stains, wear, dents... It is not a very old statue, probably around 1950, but very interesting for its plasticity, all in geometric plan interlocking with each other. others, in the purest cubist style, with total freedom in human representation but still strictly respecting the Songye style. Note the bilongo, a magical charge around the belly, it is a hermaphrodite character as often, which brings together the strength of man and the fertility of woman which also symbolizes that of nature (harvesting, hunting, etc.) A Video => Video
