An intriguing lacquered wood netsuke depicting a man bent over, looking fierce as he grasps a large rock.This is most likely a stylised representation of a Polynesian, as suggested by his long loose hair and loincloth.

Good condition, superb patina showing the successive layers of lacquer.
Natural Himotoshi, the rope of the inro being able to pass through several spaces between the limbs of the islander.
