Object description :

"Polychrome Wooden Sculpture Of St. Michael The Archangel From Late Seventeenth Century"
Interesting sculpture in polychrome wood depicting the winged Archangel Michael defeating the devil, skilfully carved by a Venetian sculptor from the period between the 17th and 18th centuries.

The polychromy is fairly well preserved despite the age of the object and is of excellent pictorial quality, it still shows lively colours. The motifs are that of red for the mantle and leaf gilding for the armor and the green that alternates with gold, the skirt of the saint's tunic. Other lacquers characterize the flesh tones and other details of the characters while maintaining a certain naturalistic fidelity of the composition. Also beautiful is the figure of the devil excruciating with the pain of his defeat.

The cleaning of the sculpture made it possible to bring out the very well-preserved polychromy and gilding, especially highlighting the quality of the execution of the faces and the most minute details. The colors are original and have not been repainted.

The height measurement is 40 cm.
