Luxurious and heavy old Macchad or Mechhed carpet, signed by the master knotter, circa 1980. In hand-knotted kork wool, for approximately 360,000 knots per m2, this sumptuous carpet in the dominant color, crushed raspberry, comes from Iran.
This true masterpiece of the art of knotted carpet was designed in Macchad, in the border region of Afghanistan and Beluchistan.;
This superb Macchad is in very good condition with velvet, selvedges and fringes.
The wonderful quality Kork wool is soft and shiny. This very beautiful rug comes from the province of Mechhed and measures 300 cm wide by 390 cm long. Mecched is the second largest city in Iran located in the Northeast and nicknamed "the city of a thousand faces."
This rug has a very beautiful decoration of a large medallion, a superb, very ornate field, accompanied by stylized flower borders. .The colors are bright with a dominant of crushed raspberry for the field and ivory and blue, to highlight the medallion and the spandrels.
The field decorated with a beautiful, very elaborate central medallion ends lengthwise with two important pendants in the shape of a halberd and is set with four faded apricot spandrels, flowered in midnight blue and raspberry hues.
A red braid forms the edges of this high quality piece.
This rug has been professionally and eco-friendly cleaned.
