"Félix Raoul Etève (1902 - 1967), Oil On Canvas, The Moulin De Jarcy On The Banks Of The Yerres"
This very beautiful oil on canvas, signed lower left R. Etève, is characterized by an impressionist style, with large touches of thick colors playing with light and shapes. The painting represents the Moulin de Jarcy on the banks of the Yerres (label mentioning the situation on the back of the canvas, and also indicating the various rewards awarded to the painter). The canvas is beautifully presented in a very beautiful stuccoed and gilded wooden frame, richly worked. Note some very slight chips and accidents to the stucco, visible in the detail photos. The Moulin de Jarcy was created in 1260 by the Countess of Toulouse, sister-in-law of Saint-Louis, at the same time as the abbey of Jarcy was founded. This mill, located between two arms of the Yerres, a river crossing the current commune of Varennes-Jarcy in Essonne, was a water mill intended to convert wheat into baker's flour and less noble grains into flour for cattle. . The mill continued to operate until 1922, after which it was converted into an inn and then a reception hall for weddings to this day. Félix Raoul Etève, landscape painter, was born in Montmorillon in Vienne on July 23, 1902. He obtained numerous awards including the prize from the Society of French Landscapers in 1935, the silver medal from the International Exhibition of 1937 , gold medal and Corot grand prize 1938, Institute prize 1939.
