"André Poujet Surrealism"
Abstract painting signed, titled "really peaceful country", located and dated "Paris 1960". The painter, André Poujet (1919-1996), close to the surrealists and a member in particular of the group la main à plume, started at the Esquisse gallery which also exhibited Kandinsky, de Staël and Poliakoff, then the Denise René gallery. In 1942, he married Aline Gagnaire with whom he opened a bookstore and gallery at 52 quai des Orfèvres. A painting, titled Libertoscope, quite close to ours, was purchased in 1962 by the Museum of Modern Art of the city of Paris during the comparisons fair. The canvas has a few accidents, notably a missing strip a few millimeters wide along the short top side. It is framed with a tinted baguette.
