Rare art nouveau bronze plaque. Léon Gobert was a popular sculptor at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries in Hainaut. Student and disciple of Charles Van Oemberg at the Academy of Fine Arts of Mons, of which he himself became a professor (1899-1934), he also took courses at the Academy of Brussels, where the teaching of Charles Van der Stappen particularly inspired him. Prize Godecharle 1895, he specialized in the creation of sculptures, busts, medallions and bas-reliefs illustrating the work of the mine, poverty and the working conditions. We owe him types of workers, portraits and subjects of regional inspiration. Working mainly in bronze, he also practices modeling, ceramics and direct carving. He was a professor at the Provincial Institute of Arts and Crafts of Saint-Ghislain and at the Academy of Mons. He collaborated with the magazine Savoir et Beauté.
