Small Pewter Alcohol Pitcher - Paris, 18th Century flag

Object description :

"Small Pewter Alcohol Pitcher - Paris, 18th Century"
Very rare small open pewter PITCHER, shouldered shape and plinth foot. “Nave” control mark used from 1765, representing the city’s arms. Incompletely legible hallmark (Probably François DEGLAND received master in 1738).
Height: 10.3 cm.
PARIS, Around 1770/80.

Good condition.
Generally speaking, pewter pitchers were the wine measures of the Ancien Régime, but the very small ones measured alcohol. These pitchers born without a lid were preferred to those with one, considered more cumbersome by the waiters. They are also much rarer, especially in these very small dimensions.
