19th Century, Chinese Paintbrush Box Or Pen Box In Carved Stone With A Frog & Lotus Lake Décor

China, very beautiful scholarly object; brush box or pencil case in soapstone carved with the rare decoration of an aquatic scene.

Length: 27cm / Depth: 7.2cm / Maximum height. 5.2cm / Weight: 635g
The large beauty object presents a rich applied decoration in sculpted stone (ivory-colored soapstone or soapstone stained with pink) with motifs of interlacing stems of aquatic plants, lotus flowers; the scene is animated by three frogs in the round. The backgrounds are blackened with Indian ink. This box in very good condition nevertheless has four small gaps placed opposite the front, but really nothing important that could detract from the beauty of the object, especially since it could easily be repaired (see last photo)..
