"Infantry Officer's Saber -mod 1882- Manufacture D Armes De Chatellerault"
Infantry officer's sabre, model 1882 from the Manufacture d'armes de Chatellerault. Nickel-plated brass frame with cup-shaped cap and long tail bearing an engraved monogram: "CM". Handle in blackened buffalo horn, furrowed to receive a filigree of fine twisted brass wire. Rounded joint arch, pierced with an eyelet at its upper part for the passage of the strap. 3 secondary branches converging towards the middle of the oval plateau ending in a curved and convoluted quillon. Straight blade with 2 edges and two grooves along its length. Marking on the heel of the blade partly disappeared: Manufacture d'armes de ChatL, infantry officer, mod 1882, and on the other side, the hallmarks in a diamond "C" for MP.CHOUARD, controller and reviser (1883- 1890) and "B" in double circle of "J.BRENIER (1874-1893). This saber would have been produced between 1883 & 1890. Metal scabbard with 1 bracelet & bail ring with trace of oxidation.
