Large Indian chest in exotic wood covered with ironwork and iron work. The top has a rounded shape and opens two-thirds by means of two wrought iron hinges, it reveals a large storage space traditionally used for linen, and a transverse compartment in the upper part on the left. The facade is entirely covered in pressed sheet metal with a grid decoration and decorated with rosettes. Both sides, the back and the lid are covered with iron strip with rounded shapes. The whole thing rests on four casters, it is also equipped with two wrought iron side handles. Closure is ensured by a hasp and a chiseled iron buckle. This superb chest is from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century, it comes from the Rajasthan region, in the North West of India. This type of chest was often offered by the family as a dowry for a wedding. Handcrafted, this trunk has some imperfections in its proportions, particularly at the rear part which is inclined (see last photo). Waxed finish, note traces of wear due to use and age.
