“La Frileuse” model in gilded bronze, was produced and published by the famous Barbedienne foundry between 1876 and 1910, based on the marble sculpture created around 1783 by the sculptor Jean Houdon. This remarkable work is also known under the title “Winter”. Original gilding and in a very good state of conservation according to its age, Barbedienne Fondeur Paris stamp and Houdon signature. Jean Antoine Houdon is one of the greatest artists of the Age of Enlightenment, born in Versailles in 1741, it was at the age of nine that he learned sculpture in the workshop of Jean-Baptiste Pigalle, recognized by numerous awards (Prix de Rome 1761...) approved by the Royal Academy in 1769, his works were exhibited at the Salon from 1771 until 1814.
