"Pierre Hodé Bouquet Of Flowers"
Bouquet of red flowers in a Provencal pot by the artist Pierre Hodé (1889-1942). Originally from Rouen, he was encouraged by Robert Antoine Pichon. His first submission to the Salon d'Automne in 1919 was in the Cubist vein. He was gassed during his voluntary engagement as a stretcher bearer at the front in 1917, the after-effects of which he suffered for the rest of his life. In 1931, he specialized in theater decor at the instigation of Georges Dorival. In 1937, Robert Delaunay asked him to participate in the Universal Exhibition for two frescoes on the railway, he returned to painting only to die as a result of his exposure to gases in 1917 in 1942. Our painting, signed lower right left, is framed in its original frame. It must date from the end of the 1920s. It has some small gaps at the bottom, visible in the photographs. Without frame, it measures 73.3x59.5 cm.
