Exceptional etching on prepared paper by Maurice Deville engraver (1860 Bayonne-1919 Paris) after a composition by Julius Leblanc Stewart (1855 Philadelphia -1919). Julius L. Stewart, an American painter active in France, was a pupil of Jean Léon Gérôme and Raimundo de Madrazo. He specialized in genre scenes and portraits, as well as views of Venice. (source: Benezit)
This particular proof is autographed signed in pencil lower left, it is on prepared paper, possibly Japan paper and has in the right margin an engraved "note" depicting a lying dog.
