"André Raynaud (1883-1974) “frozen Evening, Winter In The Alps” Mountain Painter, Valenc"
Very beautiful oil on cardboard by André Raynaud representing a freezing winter evening in the Alps, signed lower right. Format without frame 27x37cm and 36x46cm including frame. It is therefore a very pretty post-impressionist composition by André Raynaud who paints here a winter night in the Alps, probably in the Chamonix valley, where we can see a buron in the foreground, then the snowy road, in the distance other illuminated chalets and finally the mountains under the snow in the distance. As usual, Raynaud paints this work with a knife, in a very rich paste, in a palette of white and blue, purple and a few hints of yellow. We obviously immediately think of other mountain painters when seeing this work, such as Contencin, Poignant or Communal (see works for sale), like them Raynaud likes to play on the thicknesses of material and thus gives a lot of depth to his works. We know very little about André Raynaud, except that he was from Dromois, originally from Valence and therefore liked to paint in the Alps, especially in the area around Chamonix, in the Huez region. But like any good self-respecting painter, he will set up his easel in several other regions, such as the Côte d'Azur and Provence. He will also create watercolors. Today his works are rather rare on the market, and we can note some good sales results, including a record of more than €1,300 in 2017 "Environments of Huez" 38x55cm. This painting is in good original condition, I just note 2/3 tiny chips which I will be able to repair but not before 15 days, or sold as is. Delivered in a period gold patina frame.
