Carl Wilhem I Kolbe (1757-1835): “The Ox”, etching 7.5 x 6.3 cm on sheet 10.5 x 8 cm, mounted in a blackened wooden frame 13.5 x 10.5 cm. Monogrammed CWK f (f for fecit) and numbered 74 at the top right. Damaged glass and small foxing. Referring directly in spirit to the works of the 17th century, this engraving is nevertheless circa 1800 and is characteristic of the first manner of its German author called "The Old One" to differentiate him from his nephew called "The Young One" also an etcher.
