Object description :

"Genoese Dagger Called "stiletto" Early 19th Century"
It is a Genoese dagger, whose blade shape is quite characteristic. The type of mount allows us to date it from the first quarter of the 19th century.
I called it a "dagger", but we can if we want to classify it in the large "stilettos"", which were worn at the time throughout southern Italy and Corsica. BLADE: This is the typical “genoise” blade, with two offset edges. The back starts thick, and after 6 cm becomes thinner to give the counter-edged edge.
Length of the blade 19.7 cm, width near the guard 1.8 cm, thickness near the guard = 2.8 mm
HANDLE: it is made of dark horn, with several bone inlays decorated as stars.
The pommel is in one sinle piece with the rest of the handle.
A white metal ferrule, probably silver, connects the handle to the guard.
The tang is riveted onto the end of the pommel.
Nice dagger that just needs to find its place on a gentleman's desk
