"Alfred Lesbros (1873-1940) "fisherman's Huts In A Cove C.1932/38" Group Of Thirteen"
Very beautiful oil/canvas by Alfred Lesbros representing fishermen's huts in a Mediterranean cove, circa 1932/38, signed with the workshop stamp lower right + workshop stamp from the Millon sale of May 10, 2006 on the back on the chassis. Format of the canvas alone without frame 38x55cm. It is therefore a new Fauvist canvas by Alfred Lesbros, produced around 1932/38. He then painted sheds in a cove, probably between Marseille and Cassis, as usual he uses his emblematic technique, between Fauvism and Expressionism. , he stylizes his motif and applies quick and powerful touches, which he even crosses in places like in his sky and here his palette is made of greens, pinks, sky blue, browns. Finally, we can see his preparatory drawing in places, which gives even more strength to this work painted on pattern. I no longer present Lesbros, famous Avignon painter, spearhead of the Group of Thirteen alongside Pierre Alexandre Belladen, Alfred Bergier, Lina Bill, Léon Colombier, Claude Firmin, Jules Flour, Joseph Hurard, Joseph Meissonnier and Louis Agricol Montagné. He is recognized for his very innovative work for the time, particularly thanks to his minimalist stencils; his work is sometimes very close to that of Auguste Chabaud with whom he obviously worked. He had several periods, the first from 1897 to 1910, then the stencils from 1910 to 1926, then the Blacks and Whites 1926-1927, Expressionist period 1927-1931, colored period 1932-1934, white circles 1935-1936 , revival of the colored period 1937-1938 and the black, blue and white circles 1939-1940. He attended several art schools as well as Provençal masters such as Jules Flour and Pierre Grivolas and was behind the exhibitions of the Group of Thirteen. The group organized a first exhibition on December 21, 1912 which was a great success, followed by a second exhibition on December 18, 1913, which was also the last. He will participate in the Salon de Lyon, the Salon des Indépendants in Paris and the Salon d'Automne. He painted more than a hundred works exhibited today in museums or public collections in Aix-en-Provence, Arles, Avignon, Marseille, Montpellier and Tournon. The Calvet museum in Avignon has: The Court of the Livery of Thury, The Garden and Promenade. He was subject to the artistic influences of the early 20th century, from impressionism to cubism, which he transmitted on his canvases with his Provençal temperament. It is an oil painting whose subject is mainly landscapes. Techniques vary; thus we find the same view treated with different painting techniques: pointillism, realism, synthetism or even abstraction. From the 1920s, his subjects were taken around Graveson, Boulbon, Barbentane, Villeneuve-les-Avignon and even Avignon. Alfred Lesbros is buried in the Montfavet cemetery. This canvas is therefore in very good condition, delivered in a modern, predominantly blue baguette. Authentic guarantee PS: I am offering another work, this time from his divisionist period around 1900/1905, see other ad.
