"Chofa, Wat Thai Temple Ridge Ornament."
Temple ridge ornament (Faïteau) called, according to interpretations, “Garuda” (In Sanskrit: Eagle), mount of the god Vishnu or “Hong/Hamsa” (Thai: Hong /Sanskrit: Hamsa) representing the mythical bird or swan , animal vehicle (vâhana) of the god Brahma. Beautiful original patina, vestige of red bowl, (Colors of Brahma). Thailand or Laos, Late 17th, early 18th century. Delivered with its white or black steel base, adjustable inclination of the shofa. Provenance: Estate of the collector and art dealer Claude de Marteau. Sold with certificate of provenance.
